Continuing Your Recovery at Home

The appropriate post-discharge care services can enable patients to meet their needs in the community.

These services include Centre-based, Home-based, Institution-based care or other support services.

While Awaiting Longer Term Plans

You and your family can plan for an interim care arrangement at home.

If eligible, you may also be​ discharged to interim care facilities while waiting for your final placement.

Overstaying

Patients who are identified as Medically Fit for Discharge from Hospital and refuse discharge either to an interim placement or final placement may be deemed as a Social Overstayer.

In line with the Ministry of Health’s Social Overstayer Policy, any extended hospital stay will result in:

  • Withdrawal of government subsidies
  • Inability to utilise MediShield Life, Integrated Shield Plans, Medifund assistance, Private Medical Insurance, Civil Service Benefits, non-immediate family members’ MediSave and the Public Assistance Scheme for public hospital bills
