Did you know that our Heritage Museum houses the original artifact of Mr Tan Tock Seng's personal note on why and how the hospital was founded?

Marble-Slab.jpg

Dated back in 1845, this poignant piece of history was casted on a marble slab in Traditional Chinese characters. Mr Tan's compassion and desire to help the underprivileged were clearly reflected on this heartfelt inscription. Click here to read more.

Such is the significance of the stone that the National Heritage Board loaned it from us for its upcoming exhibition Great Peranakans: Fifty Remarkable Lives. Therefore, a replica stone tablet has been reproduced to temporarily take the place of the original artifact in our museum. We are very proud to know that the story of our origin will be the oldest relic in the exhibition hosted by Peranakan Museum happening this May to March 2016.

Yet ever since I began running my business, in my private heart I have always desired to be able to do something for abandoned and suffering people. "

~ Mr Tan Tock Seng, 1845

FUN FACTS

David Tan, great-great-grandson of Mr Tan Tock Seng, was the interior designer who planned the museum's layout.
