APNs play a niche role within their discipline and they work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide care to their patients. Through their training, they possess the expert knowledge and critical decision-making skills to diagnose and manage common medical conditions. Under the National Collaborative Prescribing Programme (NCPP), APNs can also prescribe medications within their scope of practice.

How are the APNs prepared?

RNs are required to undergo a 1.5 year Master of Nursing course at the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies in National University of Singapore. Having passed the school's requirements, they then undergo a year of internship at TTSH. In order to pass the internship and successfully become a licensed APN, APN interns need to fulfill the requirements of a portfolio and pass the summative assessment.

More information can be obtained from Singapore Nursing Board and National University of Singapore website.

Contact our Executive Administrator Leong Li Qun to arrange for a meet up with our APN career guides.
